Can one person make a difference? I’ve met someone who has. Yoli Alvin is the mom of Alyssa Alvin who passed away a couple of years ago after her long battle with leukemia. Alyssa was a talented artist, musician and overall beautiful human being. After her battle with leukemia was lost, Alyssa’s mom wanted to share Alyssa’s story with others and in the process began a foundation called The Alyssa Alvin Foundation for Hope. The organization collects instruments and art supplies to donate to children who are going through treatments. The use of the arts to help them get through their treatment is exactly what Alyssa would do when she was sick. Yoli also takes 100% of the money donated to the foundation to buy an instrument requested by the child or specific art supplies requested but the child as well. Alyssa’s love of the arts is what helped her get through some difficult times. After Alyssa passed away, Yoli wanted a for her daughter’s spirit to still touch others through the arts, so Yoli started up this foundation in order to help others benefit from the arts as her daughter did.
I’ve had the privilege of knowing Yoli for a little over a year and I’m amazed by her strength, determination and genuine love for what she does through her foundation. She has touched so many lives, and helped so many children that it gives me faith that there truly are good people in the world.
