Sorry for the delay in getting my post out there, but I am new to blogging and just realized the one I posted a couple of days ago didn’t go through because I did it wrong. So, lets try this again….
In the course of people finding out I’m writing a Middle Grade Fantasy series, one of the most common questions asked is “how do you write a book, let alone a whole series? Where do your ideas come from?” I think because I am your every day, common mom, it intrigues those I know,(and some that I don’t know), that I’ve written a book and it’s actually being published. My answer to their questions are, “I just write.” If you’ve read my previous 2 posts, you know already how I got this story started. With that being said, it’s not to say it was necessarily easy to write. I seem to have so many ideas floating around in my head, that sometimes it’s hard to nail them down and work them into the story. Something I have done in my story is to use names and places that have meaning to the story. What does that mean? Well, many of the names of my characters mean something. I wanted to do this so that when the reader gets to know my characters, their names add another dimension to them. It helps the reader understand the character in a much deeper sense, in turn, adding to their understanding of the story. Something else I have been throwing around in my head is, having an index in the book on pronunciations of the names as well as the meaning of those names. I absolutely love reading fantasy books, but the number one thing that was a bit frustrating for me (as a adult) when reading Harry Potter for example, was knowing how to pronounce some of the names. I actually went through the whole first book, mispronouncing Hermione’s name. I’m hoping by having this index in the book, it will help alleviate some of those frustrations as well as give a sneak peak at the characters by giving their meaning of their names. I would love to hear from you, the reader, on what you think of this. Ask your friends as well and have them give me their feedback.
Thanks for stopping by for a visit. Please be sure to invite a friend to visit my site as well and subscribe to my posts. This experience of getting published is so much more fun when I have others to share it with! I’m hoping you will continue to follow me on this wonderful journey up to the release of ‘The Wish’. I am working on some surprises for my subscribers, so please continue to drop by so you don’t miss out!
Until next time……
